4-H Dog Show Adventures
We kicked off last weekend with the 4-H Dog Show. Makayla and our 2-year-old Border Collie, Jet, have been diligently preparing for months, going to training classes weekly. Their hard work truly paid off. In showmanship Makayla and Jet worked well together and earned 2nd place. Unfortunately, obedience and rally didn’t go as smoothly as we hoped. Jet was distracted by Colton’s crying during the obedience class, and I had to leave the building with him. Consequently, I missed watching Makayla and Jet compete in this class.
On Sunday they competed in an agility class ( it should have been 2 classes, but I goofed up with registration). They navigated the course with precision and speed, earning Grand Champion for that division! Their incredible performance means they will be heading to the State Fair, and we couldn't be more proud of their accomplishments.
Fashion Revue
Once the dog show was behind us we started focusing on the Fashion Revue. This is Katelyn's absolute favorite event. She loves coming up with and designing a project and then creating the perfect outfit to model. It was bit of a chore finding the right dress complete with a flat tire on the side of the road. Finally after 3 different stores we found the right dress and luckily the jacket she decorated hid the fact that the dress is too big for her right now.
Katelyn entered the upcycle division with her beautifully embellished jean jacket. Inspired by a Facebook reel her grandmother shared, she added tulle decorated with small daisies and accented the tulle with daisy chain lace using fabric glue (...and some stitches). Her creativity and poise modeling for the judges earned her the Grand Champion title in her division.
Makayla competed in the heritage arts division, presenting her virus shawl made from 100% super wash wool. She plans to wear this stunning piece to church and during cool evening events. I think I might have to steal it from time to time since she is wearing my shirt and my shoes. Her dedication to crochet and the intricacy of her work were recognized, and she also received the Grand Champion title in her division.
Next week, both Katelyn and Makayla will be judged on the quality and craftsmanship of their projects. This will begin with interview judging on Tuesday and we'll find out how they placed on Friday. Then we'll get the lambs ready for their shows on Friday and Saturday. And for fun we threw in volleyball camp next week :)
Natalie and Colton have been troopers tagging along. However, we're looking forward to some extra hands with the grandparents next week so maybe Colton doesn't have to spend all day everyday at the fair grounds. It wears a little guy out.
We're proud of the girls even if the performances don't always result in a purple ribbon. I appreciate the life lessons 4-H teaches them-- creativity, planning, designing, executing a plan, time management, sportsmanship, and record keeping.
