County Fair Wrap-Up: A Week of Champions and Memories

Another county fair has come to an end. It is always bittersweet as the fair ends with the livestock sale. County fair is not just about ribbons and trophies but the incredible memories we made together. Here’s a recap of our week:

Champions in the Making

Our girls shined this year, each showcasing their dedication and hard work:

Katelyn’s Grand Champion Jacket was inspired by a Facebook reel her grandmother shared. Katelyn upcycled a jean jacket with tulle that had a daisy pattern and daisy chain lace accents. Her creativity and craftsmanship earned her the Grand Champion in her division.

Makayla’s Sweet Success with her themed cupcakes, complete with a barn, sunflowers, and lambs, earned Reserve Grand Champion. Her crocheted virus shawl won Grand Champion in her division. But her accomplishments didn’t stop there. Makayla achieved her ultimate goal for the year by winning Intermediate Sheep Showmanship and Reserve Champion Intermediate Premier Exhibitor.

Natalie, got to participate in showmanship in the Peewee Goat and Sheep classes. She absolutely adores the goats...or maybe it is our friend who is more like a big brother to her. Watching her learn and grow in the ring was a joy.

While Colton didn’t compete, he played a vital role as the official taste-tester for Makayla’s frosting. His biggest prize? Enjoying the comforts of home and skipping the long days at the fairgrounds thanks to the grandparents coming in to help out.

The Thrill of the Carnival

We picked the hottest afternoon to enjoy carnival rides. The heat didn't stop the girls from having a blast. They were able to ride multiple times without much time spent waiting in lines. And it's always a treat when Grandpa will go on a few rides with you!

A Bittersweet Farewell

Katelyn and Makayla both sold one of their lambs at the Jr. Livestock Sale, a tradition that always brings mixed feelings. Saying goodbye to the lambs they’ve worked diligently with is never easy. Even the momma sheds a few tears. But, we know their hard work contributes to a nourishing product for families to enjoy.

Trials and Tribulations

In the midst of our fair preparations, the Alexander Mountain fire broke out. John, as part of the Larimer County Sheriff's Posse, spent Monday and Tuesday evacuating animals from the mountains. Despite the chaos, he was there on Saturday to encourage the girls and watch them show their lambs.

As we pack away the ribbons and trophies, we are reminded that the true reward of the fair is not the accolades but the memories and lessons learned. We are already looking forward to next year, excited for what projects the kids will tackle next year.
